It’s 4pm and I’m sitting at the Eatery Cafe in Byron Bay with my good friend Nettie, sipping my honey, lemon & mint tea. Today has been so refreshing for both of our souls. It’s been a day filled with sunshine, music, the ocean and an abundance of laughter.
Byron Bay is the type of place, where as soon as you see that familiar sign your shoulders automatically drop. As your eyes catch that ocean glint, it seems like everything is right with the world. There is this ambience that floats through the streets, this peaceful presence that washes over you like a wave. This place makes me smile.
Whether it is the live music streaming from the streets, the inviting cafes, the quirky little shops or a simple afternoon sitting in the park munching on fish and chips while watching the waves break, Byron Bay just has something about it. It always has been one of my favourite getaway locations for a little rejuvenation.
Even right in the middle of winter, Byron is alive. Nettie and I started the day on a little grassy spot facing the ocean. As we were sitting there, a lone singer carrying a guitar appeared and started to play. Suddenly Bob Marley and John Butler began reverberating through the crowd of people. The vibe was so addictive we sat in that spot for hours listening to those sweet tunes, absorbing the warmth and vitamin d, connecting, laughing, and swapping stories.
After the music and sunshine had warmed our souls, we started our mission; to find a great cafe for two aspiring writers to do what they love doing; writing, so we set off on the hunt for that perfect warm cafe.
As we were wandering around we were approached by lady with a party flyer trying to convince us to attend. Enthusiastically, Nettie responded ‘No thanks, we are about to blog!’. The look that was returned to us told us she was not a writer, so we continued on, and eventually found a perfect spot to put our writing into practice.
Besides a few humble friends no one knows we are here. So we sit here, in this warm cafe, with our two identical Laptops blogging away, writing about our dreams and passions and pursuing a hobby that was always in the back of both of our minds.
